Ran in for a quick breakfast to go. Very reasonable prices especially for the keys. My omelet was good - spinach. Tomatoes. Feta. Felt the omelette needed more feta to make it even better. I'm not a potato eater so offered the home fries to the kids. Both felt they were too bland to eat. Wife had a croissant egg sandwich. It looked really good. Better than my omelette. She loves potatoes and ordered hash browns. . She said they weren't good at all. Just flavorless. So would we go back again? Yes. But I think I'll try the grits. Strong point. We ordered to go and food hot and ready in less than 5 minutes. Friendly staff. Nothing fancy about the restaurant. As others said. Just a good hole in the wall

Go there hungry. Giant Burritos and the freshest salsa you've had in years, guaranteed!

Great hole in the wall spot - serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day! Great selection of beers too!

  • Tracey G.

Awesome breakfast quesadilla and its big enough to share :) the traditional eggs and pancakes also good. A little small and not much ambiance. Will def be back to try other items!!

Great place!!! We wanted a low key, chill, no frills place to grab a bite for lunch. This is the place!!! We were pleased! Our son had the grilled cheese--very cheesy, and hot. My husband and I split two orders of shrimp tacos and tuna tacos--both very tasty. No frills, just good food. Our waitress was very attentive and super friendly. A definite little gem in Key Largo!

  • Kimberly C.

Go for the Mexican! I got the best shrimp tacos ive had. They put a chili onion mix in the taco, lots of spice and flavor. My husbands burrito was gigantic and was served with delicious green chile topping.

  • Gavin G.

This place is a small dinner. Very nice service. But there buffalo chicken sandwich is bland and had no flavor, I was hearing such praise for this place by my family but I don't think it's worth the rating it's given by my family. Although there tacos and nachos were given good rating by my family. It's a small greasy dinner but not a bad one I think they should just focus on Mexican food though.

  • Greg P.

Best cracked conch I've ever eaten, and I've had it at a lot of places, in the Keys and in the Bahamas.

    (5)
  • Ana Iris L.

Good service but the dinner is awful!!!! The churrasco steak was very hard! I will never get back!!

    (1)
  • Javi G.

Let's start off with the food. It wasn't the worst I've eaten but I have had better. It was a good philly cheese steak not going to complain there. The dining area itself was pretty gross. There were ants on the table and all over the window. I found a piece of lettuce on my plate when what I was eating did not even have lettuce. Not sure if it was put there on accident or left over from a previous dish. If you're looking for a quick lunch this is the place to go! Very nice staff though.

Nothing short of amazing. Great price and amazing food, no matter what you choose! The portions are pretty big so come hungry- this family kitchen means business. I loved the authentic Mexican selection and my boyfriend raved about his fresh seafood. We will certainly be returning before the end of our vacation!

  • Eric L.

Stopped by here for dinner since it's close to Marriott's and also good reviews. We had seafood burrito, baby back rib, and cracked conch. Service is definitely sub-par. Food is so so, at best. My son found a strand of hair in the salad. We did not mention it to the server since we just wanted to get out of there ASAP. Ruined our first Key Largo restaurant impression. I wish they have zero stars on the review since one star might be too generous!

  • Genie C.

Wow!!! This was a random pick as we were starving headed to Key West. We got the Tuna Melt...amazing. Service was very nice and friendly. A must if you are in Key Largo!

  • Matthew R.

Excellent service and the freshest food! Went here on a whim as it was close to our hotel and we wanted some Mexican food. Very pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness, the quality of the food and the portion size. Not sure if our server was the owner, but great service. Must try if your in the area.

We ate lunch here on the covered patio and we all really enjoyed it. I had fish tacos with mahi mahi and they were tasty. Steak fajitas were also delicious. Only thing that wasn't good was the key lime pie. I didn't care for it but my sons liked theirs. It tasted like it had been in the fridge for too long. Service was very pleasant and attentive. We'd certainly return.

Love this place. The food is very well priced and delicious. Staff is friendly and they have indoor and outdoor seating.

  • Jessica K.

Stopped on our way out of the Key's. Pleasantly surprised ! I had the tres taco's (chicken) everything was very fresh. Chicken was grilled to order - not that rubbery pre-made stuff. My husband had the western omelet.. He ate every bite so that tells you what he thought :) Waitress was very nice. Great experience - we will be back the next trip to the Key's.

    (5)
  • Alex R.

Patty melt heaven!! We also had the pulled pork and BLT at our table and all were very good! Service was prompt and food came out very quickly from the open grill. Small inside area and a large patio to suit any desired eating arrangement. I will make this a stop on any trip to the Keys...great lunch place for us coming from Tampa early in the morning. Give it a try....breakfast specials looked interesting as well (anything with chorizo gets my attention).

We loved Evelyn's! We ate breakfast there twice over a three day period around Thanksgiving.

  • Clinton S.

A great place to eat!!!!!!!! Have really enjoyed everything about this place.

Phenomenal house guacamole and salsa. Entrees were slightly overpriced but surely enjoyable. Definitely worth the stop while visiting Key Largo.

  • Breck A.

A great find. Great food, fast service and fair priced. Lots of choices and they let you pick from any part of the menu anytime of day. Waitress was excellent!

  • Justin M.

Very good fresh food! I would recommend the club sandwich or chicken burrito as ours was awesome!

  • Anony M.

I had heard great reviews from this place. It's the Florida keys ...so we expected fresh seafood. My wife saw it was frozen from a bag. The seafood platter combo was blah, dry and chewy. The appetizer was ok. They charged us for a couple of side of ranch and honey mustard....really it should be included because that's the only way you can wash down the dry seafood. The side of steam veggies was quite unappetizing...defrosted jail food. The waitress girl was nice but I'm not sure if they were acting all weird because it was 30 mins til closing. NOT Coming back here.

Friendly service, clean stop in Key Largo. We stopped there on the drive to Key West. The family ate fish sandwiches, soup, salads and fries. The food was passable, but neither good nor bad. I can't quite grasp the current 4* rating. I was not unhappy with our lunch, but not pleased. Some times that is enough, but not while in the Keys.

  • Kasey B.

I gave Evelyn's a big ole "Meh." My husband and I ordered close to the same thing. His came out and was beautiful, everything of mine was severely overdone. I fear for the short order cook who hasn't mastered consistency in an over easy egg. The bacon was damn near inedible, it did not seem to have been made that morning (and quite possibly not the morning before) and why did all of the toast have to be burned? Our waitress was awesome, efficient and friendly but there was one woman stalking around the place like she was carrying a lemon around in her mouth, just all side eye and sour puss. I didn't give a single star only because, as I said, my husband's breakfast was fine, they reserved all of their cooking and over cooking for me evidently.

  • E G.

Great restaurant as we were headed back north from the keys. Everyone in there knew each other and the waitress so it's obviously a local favorite. Nice outside dining on the patio. Serve breakfast all day which is what we were looking for since it was after 1pm. Had trouble finding a website or menu online (that would have been helpful) but we decided to try it. Got my Mediterranean omelette and he got the chorizo breakfast tacos. Enjoyed it very much. Our kind of place.

  • Ivette D.

Glad we stopped in here for dinner! The food was delicious. The waitress was great with her recommendation on splitting the Steak Rancheros between two people who weren't that hungry. Saved us an entree & the steak rancheros were so good. The steak was tender, the refried beans were awesome, and the veggies were made to perfection!! Although I had to get up for my own napkins, she was still pretty attentive considering she was the only server, it was close to closing & there was a big table next to us. Great hole in the wall if you're up for some good Mexican in the Keys. :)

  • Valerie J.

The chilaquiles are amazing! By far the best I've tried in the US. Service is also very friendly.

  • Katrina O.

Had breakfast here with the boyfriend. Small diner, as most are. Pretty nice menu size. Most of the food had Mexican inspiration but had your basic american choices as well. I had the two eggs over potatoes, green peppers, onions, and tomatoes. It had two slices of what I think was american cheese underneath the eggs. I thought it was pretty good. The toast was pretty good too. The coffee was just coffee nothing amazing. My boyfriend had eggs with hash browns, toast, and sausage. Hash browns weren't crispy and one spot was very cold, like they were cooked, frozen, and reheated. But the sausage links he had were damn good! Average price for breakfast! I would definitely go back and try some more!

  • amanda lynn d.

Absolutely delicious food. It doesn't look like anything on the outside but once you get inside the food customer service and drinks are amazing. Would definitely recommend.

  • Arnie C.

Lunch was good, but nothing special. I had blackend chicken and my wife had the mahi mahi, both were fine, but not excetional. Service was good and a very nice server. Prices were not expensive, both around $8. We had to eat inside as there were no tables available outside, our choice, we could have waited. It was quite warm and stuffy inside and the smell of frying oil was well imbedded into the walls. Again, we could have waited for a table outside. So, an average place to eat, but wait for an outside table.

  • Troy L.

Went for breakfast while on vacation. Food was good, had a ham and Turkey sausage of let that was very good. The people smoking (during breakfast) outside wasn't very good but I would recommend for a quick breakfast.

First time to stop here have seen it on the way to Key West great food, Great service !!! Will come back more often !!!

Went there on July 4th at 8 pm. We thought it was closing but they seated us and we had a delightful meal. The waitress had a great sense of humor and was very efficient in the beginning but towards the end sodas weren't refilled and we had to wait for the check. The seafood trio slightly above average but the seafood Flamingo was excellent. The cheese steak was steakum like but with fresh thick cut tomatoes it was yummy. Finished off meal with homemade Key Lime Pie which was a little too creamy for my taste but the kids loved it. A little more expensive than we planned but an enjoyable meal overall.

Stopped here on way to big pine for breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised! Delicious breakfast burritos and quesadilla! Don't pass this up! Great food!

  • Amanda M.

I give the food 5 starts! I will stop here next time I'm in the Keys! I got the steak ranchero. The serving was enough for 2! Enjoy!!

We are staying at the Marriott and decided to walk off property for breakfast. We ended up at Evelyn's. It had the feel of a diner with a Mexican twist. My BF ordered pancakes, eggs, sausage. The pancakes & sausage looked great! I ordered a chorizo & cheddar omelette (not on the menu). This was the best omelette I have ever had. I love chorizo. When we were finishing I told the waitress that my ole letter was delish & I love chorizo. She recommended the Breakfast Chorizo Tacos. We plan on going back tomorrow.

Quick, reasonable, and quite good. Stopped with family before going out on a dive. Perfect spot for what we needed. Opens at 6am and doesn't close til 9pm (2pm on Sundays). Friendly staff. Clean bathrooms. Outdoor seating. I had three crispy tacos where they subbed avocado for meat since I don't eat it -- $6.99. Not on the water like other restaurants in the area, but I'd definitely come back!

Fantastic little restaurant. The service is always pleasant and efficient. Great value on their menu.

Quick and friendly service. Amazing fresh and delicious food. Generous portions. Come hungry, but if you leave hungry, it's your fault

  • Dallas W.

Not impressed. I saw a lot of good breakfast reviews but unfortunately I went for dinner and the service was embarrassing. If the food was good I could put up with bad service but I ordered the mahi mahi and it was dried out.

  • Chris B.

Evelyn's is awesome. I'm there two or three times a week, usually for breakfast. The service is quick and friendly, the food is cheap, and it's always delicious! They serve breakfast all day - in addition to some great dinner options. They have an all-you-can-eat special each day - ranging from tacos to pasta to meatloaf. All good. I know this review isn't that specific - but it doesn't really need to be. Just try it for yourself!

Had lunch there today. This Mom & Pop looking place offers good food at great prices. The decor is nothing to write home about and the place certainly won't win any design awards but we ordered quickly and the food was placed on our table within 12 minutes. The kitchen is small and open so you can see the cook as he works. He is fast and efficient and I was very delighted by some of the best crunchy beef tacos I have had. Their baked beans and yellow rice were very good as well. My other half had the Philly steak sandwich with onion rings and both were delicious.

Evelyn's got 5 stars from me because it is consistently good. Try the breakfast Burrito Grade or the lunch Burrito for breakfast.

Very good , went there a couple months ago and saw a friend had gone back. That in alone should tell you something. Food was excellent. Place has that edgy keys feel. Which is either great if you want realism or makes you want to take a shower. It is not a dirty place. You as a person like olive gardens or you don't, this is not a franchise and therefore has TONS of character . I would go every day if I lived there, but they use real ingredients and you would get fat. Tasty breakfasts. Decent prices for the keys.

  • Paul S.

Only been there for breakfast, but this is on the top of my list for breakfast! You know its good, since the local fire company and ambulance corp can be found hanging out there every mouring for an hour or two. I guess if you take the fire trucks from the station to the north and to the south and stage them in the middle, its real efficient!! The burrito breakfast was awesome. Everything we had was very good. Right in the middle of Key Largo. Picnic tables in the back, good parking and easy access.

  • Sean W.

Wonderful Mexican seafood! Appearance is a bit disconcerting but the food is outstanding. Had the blackened sea food platter (scallops, shrimp, and Mahi Mahi) and wanted to lick my plate. My wife had large fish tacos with a great sauce. Oh don't be confused by the hundreds of beer bottles on the wall, as they only offer bud, miller, and corona. Friendly service with seating inside and out.

    (5)
  • Tara S.

This is a great breakfast place with a Mexican flair! I ordered chilaquiles and my husband got the huevos rancheros - we were not disappointed! The service was fast and courteous, we will definitely eat here again! Plus, the location is great, no matter which Key you are heading to!

    (4)
  • Elizabeth L.

We have only eaten breakfast their and breakfast is delicious. Eggs are a rich yellow yolk, there is a delicious Mediterranean omelette that is not on the menu. This is where the firefighters and EMT's eat breakfast ....good endorsement :)

  • Lucy W.

Great key lime pie! My conch fritters were over fried or they needed to change the oil. Chicken tacos were okay but I really liked the beans! The tacos were decent but I felt like the chicken was slightly too salty but definitely go for homemade key lime pie! Mmmm. Lot of locals though so maybe I went on an off day or well, there were too many people in there! Staff is courteous and good.

OK - prepare yourself. This place is a divey little hole in the wall. But ...it's a GEM. So don't go expecting linen tablecloths and a 5-star menu. But what these guys do, they do EXCEPTIONALLY well. So if you are looking for really good food, at really good prices, this is the place to be. OK - the callouts for why we loved this place: First - loved our server. She was extremely professional and attentive, without being overbearing. She made great recommendations and each one delivered exactly as she said it would Frankly, I rate this as perfect service. Second - you will not have a better plate of cracked conch in all of Key Largo. Maybe in all of the keys. This was seriously the best cracked conch I have every had in my life. Flaky, lightly seasoned batter (yuuuum), and flash fried (NOT deep fried). This stuff melted in our mouths. Wow. Really...just...wow. Third - the pie. OMG the pie. For those that are Key Lime Pie connosseurs: it's graham cracker crust with whipped cream, no merengue. For the rest of us: we are on a mission on this trip to find the best Key Lime Pie. According to my husband and kid - this is the best so far. I will say this might be #1. But damn, that amazing deep fried key lime pie from Pilot House Marina keeps obliterating my judgement. :) So if I hadn't had THAT, I think I would agree with my family - this is some AMAZING key lime pie! Baked from scratch each night. The rest of the dishes were really good, solid mexican cuisine with a bit of a seafood flair. I had the seafood veracruz linguine - loved it. Our son had the fajitas - yumm. Husband had the grilled fish, very good. OH...and we had a steak quesadilla for an appetizer - I swear they must have put close to 10 ounces of steak in that puppy! And it was wonderfully marinated, really delicious steak too!

Great place. The service is wonderful. My husband had the huevos rancheros and said they were better than the one he had in New Mexico. I had the burger - cooked perfectly and it hit the spot. Would recommend this to everyone.

This is terrific, fresh food, breakfast lunch and dinner. We are always enjoying Evelyn's! Oh, I was going to mention the steak burrito. My Dog! It's terrific. Missy B beat me to the mention, but I concur 100%.

  • Virgi L.

With the first owner they have the best fish sandwich after that owners changed and the food became less than mediocre

    (1)
  • Dominique F.

It's a classic diner that serves breakfast all day long. However, sadly, I wasn't craving breakfast food and got the grilled mahi sandwich instead. Service was a tad slow, but the food came out super hot, so that was a definite bonus. Was the sandwich anything fancy that I've never had before? No, but it was delicious and definitely fresh. Would absolutely be back if I'm ever in the area again.

This is my breakfast go to spot when I am in Key Largo. The breakfast menu is varied with the American standbys to Mexican and fusion. I have not settled on a favorite yet, each new item I try is always cooked perfectly, with one exception. One time the beans served on the side were luke warm to room temperature; normally they are perfect. Some of the delicious breakfasts that I have had there include; waffles with strawberries, chorizo tacos, huevos rancheros, Mediterranean omelet, farmers omelet, breakfast burrito and western omelet. I had lunch on the outdoor patio once and it was exposed to the breeze with very little noise from the road. It was decorated nicely and seemed like it would be a good place to have dinner or drink a few at night in the winter. I had my service dog there and the staff were very accommodating. This is one of the few family run operations where there isn't an incompetent family member that ruins the business. The staff are always friendly, even when busy. It appears that the majority of their customers for breakfast are regulars; they can't afford to live off of tourist business. When coming from the north the business is hard to spot. Go slow when near and look for the sign.

A delicious and friendly tropical discovery! The staff especially "Rosa", were great. I especially enjoyed the "Mermaid Burger" lol

Patty Melt Heaven with Hand Battered Onion Rings! Absolutely delicious! On a recent dive trip to the Keys, we stopped here on the way home. Great service and good food! I just wish they would make the patio area non-smoking~

For the key Largo standards, this restaurant is pretty good, given their aren't many options at all.

  • John S.

For my wife and I, there is nothing special about this place. The wife had a Mahi sandwich and I had the Pulled Pork. The food was served hot and tasted good. But once the food was served we notice there were ants crawling up the wall where we were eating. The ants were on the window ceil and on our table. Both us us were really repulsed by the amount of ants. We also found the restaurant not that clean. We won't be returning to Evelyn's again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
